Mariah Carey’s Christmas classic “All I Want for Christmas Is You” achieved a new record in the streaming music platform Spotify this Christmas, rising as the song with the highest number of reproductions in a day, local media reported today.
On December 24, the composition that Carey sang for the first time in 1994 reached 10.8 million plays on Spotify, surpassing “SAD!” rapper XXXTentacion, which held the record so far with 10.4 million copies the day after his death.
“It’s a wonderful Christmas gift, thank you!” Carey said on her Instagram account when she learned that the song she created 24 years ago is still one of the biggest musical references of these dates.
According to the online portal Quartz, the holders of song rights on Spotify receive between 0.006 and 0.0084 dollars for each reproduction on the platform, an amount that in many cases must be distributed among the record company, producers, artists and the lyricists.
In case “All I Want for Christmas Is You” is paid at the highest price of 0.0084 dollars, Carey would receive around the record of Christmas Eve about 92,400 dollars.
