The governor-elect of Florida, Republican Ron DeSantis, today announced the appointment of Michael Ertel, who has been the electoral supervisor of Seminole County for 13 years, as the new Florida secretary of state.
DeSantis, 40, who will take office on January 8, said in a statement that Ertel “has been elected four times by the voters of his county as electoral supervisor” and “has proven that he is enormously qualified to lead the Electoral elections at the state level “.
The new secretary of state will also contribute, DeSantis added, “his leadership in improving the quality of life for all Floridians through its various activities, including the preservation of the state’s historical and cultural heritage.”
It will also strengthen “business-friendly subsidy programs,” said lawyer and ex-combatant Ron DeSantis.
DeSantis received the express endorsement of President Donald Trump in the past November elections and recently stated that one of his priorities in the position will be to secure the vacancies envisaged in the Supreme Court of Florida.
DeSantis, who competed in the November 6 election with Democrat Andrew Gillum, the first African-American candidate for governor of Florida, who was supported by former President Barack Obama, was declared the winner after a long and controversial process of recounting due to the tightness of the contest.
The Florida Electoral Commission did not disclose the final official results of the midterm elections until November 20.
