López Obrador announces that Nestlé will invest 154 million dollars in Mexico

Pressing, counts the download Mexico, Dec 18 (EFEUSA) .- The president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, today announced an investment of 154 million dollars of the Swiss multinational food and beverages Nestlé in the state of Veracruz, east from the country.
Through a video distributed by the office of the president, both López Obrador and Nestlé’s CEO, Fausto Costa, said the investment will be for the construction of a production center in the eastern state of Veracruz.
In this center, state-of-the-art technologies will be implemented for coffee processing and the reduction of water and energy consumption.
“The Nestlé is good news for the development of the country by the number of jobs that will be generated,” said Lopez Obrador at the meeting.
Costa said that the investment ratifies “Nestlé’s confidence in Mexico” and indicated that the factory’s goal will be to process 20,000 tons of green coffee per year.
In a first phase, the center will generate 250 direct jobs and 2,500 indirect jobs, with the potential to reach 1,200 direct and 12,000 indirect jobs at the end of the three stages that its expansion will complete, he explained.
In a statement, Nestlé said that it annually purchases more than 1,900 million pesos (about 94 million dollars) in raw materials from the field to more than 10,000 producers in Veracruz.
Through the Plan Nescafé program, this company has a presence in the main coffee growing areas of Veracruz; in the central region and the great mountains.
In the 2017-2018 harvest, he bought 340,000 bags (of 69 kilograms each) of coffee, which represents more than 35% of the grain used nationally.
