Army kills eleven suspected al Qaeda jihadists in Libya

The Armed Forces informed today of the death in Libya of eleven terrorist suspects of Al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) during a “precision air attack” executed on Thursday by the Army in coordination with local forces.

The bombing took place in the southwest of the country, near the town of Al Uweinat, about 1,200 kilometers from the capital, Tripoli, said the military command for Africa (Africom) in a statement.

The note adds that during the operation there were no civilian casualties and that, in addition, three vehicles used by the jihadists were destroyed.

“The United States will not cease in its objective of degrading, disrupting and destroying terrorist organizations and bringing stability to the region, and we are determined to maintain pressure on the terror network and to prevent terrorists from finding refuge,” the note added.

It is the third attack against AQIM in Libya so far this year.

On March 28, the Pentagon announced a similar action near the city of Ubari – in the southeast of the country – in which Musa Abu Dawud, considered a high command of the jihadist group, was killed and another alleged terrorist was wounded.

Since the international community contributed in 2011 to the victory of the rebels over the regime of Muammar Gaddafi, Libya is a failed state, a victim of chaos and civil war.

Currently there are two governments, one supported by the UN in the west and another one protected by Marshal Jalifa Hafter, former leader of the opposition to Gaddafi recruited by the CIA and which controls the east of the country. (EFEUSA) .-
