A 16-year-old boy killed a parents, a sister and a family friend in the state of New Jersey at the stroke of midnight with a semiautomatic rifle and was arrested by authorities, official sources said today.
The quadruple homicide occurred in the town of Long Branch, on the Atlantic coast. An unidentified person reported the shooting to the police at around 23.45 local time on Sunday (4.45 GMT on Monday).
The Monmouth County prosecutor, Christopher Gramiccioni, told reporters reproduced by local media that the victims include the detainee’s father, Steven Kologi, 44, and the mother of the alleged killer, Linda, 42.
Also killed were the teenager’s sister, Brittany, 18, as well as a friend of the family who lived there, Mary Schultz, 70.
“It is terribly tragic,” Gramiccioni told reporters in Long Branch today. Gramiccioni said that the teenager’s grandfather and brother were not injured.
The authorities did not provide the identity of the alleged killer because it is a minor. They also did not point out the cause that could have led him to commit the multiple homicide, although they described the issue as an isolated case of domestic violence.
The rifle was registered in the name of one of the residents of the unidentified house, according to the news group of New Jersey Advance Media. (efeusa)
