US calls “ethnic cleansing” violence against the Rohingya in Burma

The United States declared today that, after a “careful and exhaustive analysis” of the facts, “it is clear” that the violence and abuses against the Rohingya in the Burmese state of Rakáin “constitutes an ethnic cleansing.”

This was stated in a statement by Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, who visited Burma last week.

“The Government and Burma’s security forces must respect the human rights of all people within their borders and hold those who do not,” said Tillerson.
