The digital platform of entertainment Hulu plans a series inspired by the romantic comedy “Four Weddings and a Funeral” (1994) starring Hugh Grant and Andie MacDowell, informed the specialized media Deadline today.
Mindy Kaling, the protagonist and creator of “The Mindy Project”, and Matt Warburton, executive producer of that series, will be responsible for writing the television adaptation of “Four Weddings and a Funeral”.
Both would appear as producers of a television show in which Richard Curtis, the screenwriter of the original feature film, is also involved.
Directed by Mike Newell, “Four Weddings and a Funeral” became one of the most popular romantic comedies of the 90s and raised worldwide 246 million dollars, according to the data from the specialized portal Box Office Mojo.
Although the television project is still in a very early stage of its development, the series of “Four Weddings and a Funeral” would relate the adventures and misadventures of a group of friends with a different story throughout each season.
Hulu has gained a great momentum recently thanks to the success of “The Handmaid’s Tale”, a dystopian production that has seduced the public and the critics and that won the Emmy for the best drama series at the 69th edition of the most important television awards .
