Stars from Hollywood and the world of entertainment in the United States today showed their solidarity with the victims of Mexico’s earthquake, which rocked the center of the country and caused 158 deaths.
Mexican figures who have triumphed in Hollywood like Gael Garcia Bernal, Diego Luna or Guillermo del Toro were among the most active celebrities on social networks, where they published messages of sadness and encouragement as well as useful help for emergencies.
“Carnales: let us embrace the strong and respond to this with affection and solidarity. Let us help each other,” actor Gael García Bernal wrote in a message accompanied by the label “Fuerza México.”
“Anyone in Mexico who needs to post urgent messages can do it through my account,” said filmmaker Guillermo del Toro, who from his profile on Twitter, where he has about 750,000 followers, bounced ads or requests for help from citizens affected by the earthquake.
“When I see the reaction of people to events like this, it gives me great hope for my country. Pure solidarity, love and compassion,” wrote the interpreter Diego Luna.
For her part, Latin actress Eva Longoria lamented the “horrible news” coming from Mexico and thanked God because his family is safe: “My prayers are with the world.”
Actor Eugenio Derbez shared several emergency tips after an earthquake, such as not saturating the telephone lines or not lighting a fire due to the risk of gas leaks, while also asking for the rescue of the animals affected by the incident.
“I send my love today to all the people of Mexico,” said American television star Ellen DeGeneres.
“Mexico City, I love you and I will do everything I can to help,” said actress Brie Larson, who also assured on Twitter, after exchanging several messages with Gael García Bernal, who will donate funds to the rescue brigade Topos Tlatelolco.
“This is crazy, the level of chaos around the world is surreal, I pray for all those affected,” said actor Josh Gad.
The director and actress Elizabeth Banks also expressed her solidarity, saying that the images that came from Mexico City were “terrible” and sent her best wishes to the victims.
“God, protect my Puerto Rico and give strength to the people of Mexico,” said singer and interpreter Jennifer López, remembering both the earthquake in Mexico and Hurricane Maria that threatens the Caribbean.
His ex-husband, singer Marc Anthony, said that “the power of prayer is immense” and asked to be prayed for both Mexico and Puerto Rico: “We are with you.”
“My beloved people from Mexico, first of all, I want to tell you that today, more than ever, I am with you in soul and in thought,” said musician Ricky Martin, who took advantage of his message to announce that his concert will be postponed tomorrow in the Mexican capital.
“These images hurt my soul. I love you, Mexico,” exclaimed singer Camila Cabello.
Other figures in the entertainment world such as Britney Spears, Enrique Iglesias, Resident, Shawn Mendes, George Takei, Alyssa Milano, Elijah Wood and Kerry Washington also showed their sadness and solidarity with the victims in Mexico.
