The director of the Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority (AEE), Ricardo Ramos, announced today that he will declare a state of emergency for the company in order to carry out hiring at a lower cost.
Ramos told reporters that tens of thousands of employees and private companies will be hired to carry out substation maintenance work.
He said all maintenance operations were interrupted while restructuring adviser Lisa Donahue was hired by the state company to negotiate the company’s million-dollar debt.
The manager acknowledged that frequent blackouts occurring in some parts of the island are due to deterioration in the electrical infrastructure, lack of fleet and personnel.
