The Coast Guard today repatriated 102 Haitian immigrants intercepted this mars 22 miles south of Great Inagua, in the Bahamas archipelago.
According to the institution, 1,028 Haitians have attempted to illegally reach the United States. On vessels during the current fiscal year, which began on October 1, 2016 and ends September 30, compared to the 1,872 immigrants from that nation from the previous period.
“The Caribbean and the Strait of Florida are dangerous and relentless for immigrants on illegal trips on overloaded vessels,” Captain Jason Ryan of the Seventh Coast Guard District said in a statement.
