Pence will host the traditional Cinco de Mayo party at the White House

Vice President Mike Pence will host Thursday’s White House traditional party every year on Cinco de Mayo to honor its southern neighbor, local media reported.

The party is convened in a hall of the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, adjacent to the White House, according to Politico, who cites sources from the Vice Presidency.

Pence will host Washington’s absence from President Donald Trump, who will be in New York with Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull at an event to commemorate the Battle of the Coral Sea in World War II.

Trump’s predecessors, Republican George W. Bush and Democrat Barack Obama celebrated Cinco de Mayo every year at the White House. In fact, Obama invited in 2016 the Mexican group Maná to act.

It was not clear that Trump was going to maintain this tradition because of the stormy relationship he has had with the Hispanic community and with Mexico.
