TALLAHASSEE, FL – The Florida Legislature has taken a significant step forward on a proposal to rename Palm Beach International Airport as “President Donald J. Trump International Airport,” in honor of President Donald J. Trump.
The Florida House of Representatives, controlled by a Republican majority, approved the bill (HB 919) with 81 votes in favor and 30 against. A similar measure (SB 706) is now pending consideration in the Florida Senate.
Supporters of the initiative argue that the renaming is appropriate due to President Trump’s strong ties to Palm Beach County, where he maintains his residence, and his influence on infrastructure and economic development in the region.
Political Debate and Cost Concerns

Local officials have also pointed out potential financial impacts. Palm Beach County airport authorities estimate that renaming the airport could cost more than $5 million, including expenses for signage replacement, branding updates, uniforms, marketing materials, and operational adjustments.

Amid the legislative process, the Trump Organization and its affiliated entity, DTTM Operations LLC, filed trademark applications with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for names such as “President Donald J. Trump International Airport” and “Donald J. Trump International Airport.”
According to representatives of the organization, the filings are intended to protect the name from unauthorized use, not to collect royalties or financial compensation. However, intellectual property experts have described the move as unusual, noting that it is uncommon for a sitting president’s private organization to pursue trademark protections tied to public infrastructure.
