The U.S. government launched a website on Thursday called ‘TrumpRx.gov’, a clear reference to President Donald Trump, which aims to offer American patients medications at the “lowest prices in the world.”
The initiative, announced by the White House, comes after the signing of a series of agreements with more than a dozen pharmaceutical companies, including Pfizer, AstraZeneca, and Novo Nordisk, to include some of their medications on TrumpRx at significant discounts.
The project offers up to 40 of the “most popular” brand-name prescription drugs at reduced prices, notably Ozempic—indicated for the treatment of type 2 diabetes, although it has become popular among healthy individuals seeking weight loss—which is now priced at $350 (296 euros), down from $1,028 (871 euros), according to a fact sheet released by the administration.
A unit of Gonal-F, a common medication used in in vitro fertilization (IVF), is offered on TrumpRx for $252 (213 euros), 83% cheaper than its usual price, according to CBS. During his election campaign, Trump pledged to ensure that fertility treatments would be fully covered, either by private insurance or the government.
The U.S. president, who presented the portal at an event at the White House in Washington, D.C., stated that it is “one of the most transformative healthcare initiatives of all time.” “There has never been anything like it,” he asserted.
