Trump considers “bringing together” the Venezuelan opposition and the Chavista government in future talks

The president affirms that India will stop buying oil from Iran and will acquire crude oil from Venezuela

US President Donald Trump has suggested the possibility of “bringing together” the Venezuelan opposition and the current Chavista authorities, led by interim president Delcy Rodríguez after Maduro’s capture, in possible future talks to determine the course of the Latin American country.

“I would love to be able to do something about it (the situation in Venezuela) and perhaps bring the parties together to do something,” the White House occupant told reporters aboard Air Force One, without giving further details about a possible meeting between the two sides.

When asked about opposition leader and Nobel Peace Prize laureate María Corina Machado, Trump said she is an “excellent person,” while also praising the role that Delcy Rodríguez’s government has taken after the US intervention in Venezuela. “The current leaders are doing a very good job,” he added.

The oil business is among the priorities of the US government, which, after the reform of the hydrocarbon law that opens oil exploitation to the private sector, will gain access to its reserves.

“We’re going to sell a lot of oil, and we’ll get something out of it, and they’ll get a lot. And they’re going to do very well. They’re going to make more money than ever,” he said.

INDIA ENDS ITS OIL BUSINESS WITH IRAN

The US leader affirmed that India will stop buying oil from Iran and will begin acquiring Venezuelan crude oil, after reaching an agreement with the Indian authorities in what constitutes a new pressure tactic against the Islamic republic.

On the other hand, he invited China to participate in the oil business in Venezuela. “I’ll tell you something: China is welcome and would do great business with the oil. The Chinese are welcome,” he said. He then referred to “boss” Xi Jinping to confirm that his relationship with the Asian giant is “excellent” and that he has no concerns about the country’s stability, despite the maneuvers and investigations underway within the upper echelons of the Chinese Communist Party and the military.

However, he did express his concern about Canada’s rapprochement with China and asserted that if the two countries reach an agreement, the United States will take “substantial action” against the Canadian authorities. A week ago, he already threatened 100% tariffs if trade negotiations between China and Canada were successful.
