Trump proposes revoking the television licenses of US networks that are critical of him

US President Donald Trump proposed on Wednesday revoking the broadcasting licenses of television networks that are critical of his administration, the Republican Party, or the ultraconservative MAGA (“Make America Great Again”) movement.

“If the network news and their late-night shows are almost 100% negative toward President Donald J. Trump, MAGA, and the Republican Party, shouldn’t their valuable broadcasting licenses be revoked? I say YES!” the White House chief wrote on his Truth Social account.

Trump also lashed out at late-night talk show hosts, specifically targeting Stephen Colbert, who hosts a show on CBS. “He’s a pathetic disaster, with no talent or anything else needed to succeed in show business,” he said of him.

Colbert “is a walking dead man” whom CBS should “put to sleep” due to “his nonexistent ratings,” President Trump added, accusing other hosts of receiving “high salaries” despite their “lack of talent” and “low ratings.”

This is not the first time the US president has attacked, including through multimillion-dollar lawsuits, the country’s major television networks, which he has repeatedly accused of bias in their coverage of White House policies.
