Grandma’s trick for making perfect meatballs without touching the meat: “super easy and mess-free”

Meatballs are one of those dishes that are a hit in any home and any time of year: they’re comforting in winter when bathed in Spanish sauce, they work wonderfully in summer with a good homemade tomato sauce, and they’re a clear staple for Sunday lunchboxes. But, although their versatility and flavor make them irresistible, there’s one step that many people struggle with: shaping them by hand. The mixture sticks, gets messy, and leaves your fingers a mess, so it’s no wonder that any trick that avoids this step instantly gains popularity.

Content creator Noemí Salazar, known for her participation in the show Los Gipsy Kings, has shared on TikTok a method inherited from her grandmother that’s attracting attention for its simplicity. Her method avoids getting your hands dirty and produces perfectly rounded meatballs in a matter of seconds. She sums it up herself as a “super easy and mess-free” trick.

GRANDMA’S TRICK FOR SHAPING MEATBALLS

The technique requires no special equipment: all you need is a glass, some flour, and a spoon. The procedure involves placing a thin layer of flour at the bottom of the glass, adding a spoonful of the meat mixture, and then gently rotating the glass so that the inner wall itself shapes the meatball.

This circular motion compacts and rounds the meat without needing to touch it. In just a few seconds, you have a uniform meatball, the size you prefer, ready to be added to the broth, pan, or baking tray.

Noemí explains that it’s a trick she learned from her grandmother and that she uses whenever she makes a big pot of broth with meatballs, especially on cold days. She admits that getting her hands dirty is “very tiring,” so this method has become her favorite.

TIPS FOR EVEN BETTER RESULTS

While the technique works on its own, a few small touches can improve it:

Add only a thin layer of flour to the bowl so the surface of the meatballs doesn’t become too hard.

Use a similarly sized spoon so they all turn out the same size.

Gently rotate the bowl so the meat compacts without losing its juiciness.

If you’re making them for broth, as Noemí does, the leftover flour helps to slightly thicken the liquid, giving it a more consistent finish.

In short, an ideal trick for those who cook in a hurry, for those who don’t want to handle raw meat, or simply for those who want round, uniform meatballs effortlessly.
