Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel has harshly criticized the latest sanctions imposed by the U.S. government against the island, asserting that they constitute “unilateral aggression” and form part of a wave of measures imposed by Washington “illegally.”
“Although these illegal sanctions exacerbate the country’s difficult situation, they equally reinforce our determination to defend the homeland, the revolution, and socialism,” he affirmed.
In this regard, he emphasized that the Cuban people “are already familiar with the cruelty behind the actions of the United States government, and the cruelty with which it is capable of attacking us.” He made these remarks in a message shared via social media, in which he stated that the Cuban people—”like the rest of the world—understand that this is unilateral aggression against a nation and a population whose sole ambition is to live in peace.”
“We want to be masters of our own destiny and free from the pernicious interference of U.S. imperialism,” he highlighted. His comments came one day after the United States introduced new sanctions against a company controlled by the Cuban military and its director, as well as against a mining firm, amidst the escalating blockade and pressure campaign waged by President Donald Trump’s administration against the island and its authorities.
