Trump says “we will get” control of Greenland and insists on “recovering” the Panama Canal

He says he will apply reciprocal tariffs to “all” countries that act in retaliation, mentioning the European Union

The president of the United States, Donald Trump, has reiterated this Tuesday before Congress his will to control the Panama Canal and the Greenland archipelago, assuring that “one way or another we will get it.”

“We need Greenland. I think we will get it. One way or another, we will get it,” he said in the first speech before the Senate and the House of Representatives of his second term.

During his appearance, the head of the White House has indicated that he supports the right of the island – an Arctic territory dependent on Denmark – although at the same time he has said that he would “welcome” it for reasons of national security and to “make them rich.” “We are working with all those involved to try to get it,” he reiterated.

Once again the US president has declared that he wants to “recover” the Panama Canal and has celebrated that “we have Marco Rubio in charge.” “Good luck, Marco,” he said, addressing the Secretary of State.

Trump praised the head of US diplomacy while joking that “now we know who to blame if something goes wrong.” “He’s going to do a fantastic job,” he concluded.

HE BOASTS ABOUT TARIFF POLICY BUT RECOGNIZES DISTURBANCES

In his defense of the country’s new foreign policy, the New York magnate has also dedicated a few words to the announced imposition of tariffs on other countries, assuring that these “will make the United States rich again.”

The new rates “are intended to make the United States rich and great again. And that is happening, and it will happen quite quickly,” he said, although he recognized that they will cause “some small disturbances.” “We don’t care about them. There won’t be many,” he promised.

Along these lines, he admitted that “there may be a small period of adjustment” to the application of tariffs on foreign agricultural products, so he asked American farmers to be “patient with me again.”

Thus, he warned against consuming foreign products because “they are in a very, very bad situation in many ways. “They are not inspected. They can be very dirty and disgusting when they arrive and harm our American farmers,” he said.

These statements come after the 25 percent tariffs on Mexico and Canada have come into effect as well as the increase in tariffs on China from 10 to 20 percent.

Trump has announced that he will impose reciprocal tariffs starting April 2, after Chinese and Canadian authorities have announced retaliatory measures.

“Other countries have used tariffs against us for decades, and now it is our turn to start using them against those other countries. “It’s reciprocal, back and forth. Whatever they impose on us as a tax, we will tax it,” he said, also pointing to the European Union.
