Trump sworn in as 47th US president

Republican politician Donald Trump has become the 47th president in the history of the United States after being sworn in at a symbolic ceremony that allows him to return to the White House after four years and which means ‘de facto’ the end of the mandate of Democrat Joe Biden.

Trump, 78, was sworn in on a family bible, before which he recited in the presence of the president of the Supreme Court, John Roberts, the formula included in the Constitution: “I solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the office of President of the United States and will do my best to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.”

The ceremony, in which Vice President J.D. Vance was also sworn in, took place in the Capitol rotunda, indoors, instead of in front of the building that houses the US Legislative Branch, due to the low temperatures prevailing in Washington. Hundreds of people witnessed this moment, including Biden and the other living presidents – Barack Obama, George W. Bush and Bill Clinton – as well as members of the future Administration.

Among the guests seated in the front rows was the tycoon Elon Musk, a political ally of Trump and called to be a key figure in the new political period in the North American country.

The bad weather also forced the modification of the subsequent events, including the usual formal parade after the formal inauguration, and Trump will take part in a mass at the Capital One stadium in Washington, with a capacity for 20,000 people.
