The Police Department of the city of Madison, in the US state of Wisconsin, has reported that at least four people have died and another five have been injured in a shooting near a school.
According to the Madison Police Chief, Shon Barnes, among the deceased is a minor. The main shooter has been shot dead, although security forces are still searching for possible attackers in the center.
The Madison authorities had previously sent a security alert reporting a shooting with “multiple victims” in the vicinity of the Abundant Life Christian school. The Police had called for people to avoid the area.
The Governor of Wisconsin, Tony Evers, has assured on his social networks that he is “closely following the incident” and has conveyed all his support to the students and staff of the educational center, as well as his gratitude to the emergency personnel for responding “quickly” to the incident.
The White House said President Joe Biden has been briefed on the shooting and that federal officials are in contact with local authorities in Madison to provide any necessary assistance.
