Three other people also died in an attack on their vehicle
The mayor of the Mexican municipality of Tancanhuitz, Jesús Eduardo Franco, was killed this Sunday along with three other people in a shooting attack on the vehicle in which he was traveling on the road that connects Valles and Tamazunchale.
The politician, 32 years old and a member of the Morena party, had been in office for three months, after winning the local elections held in June, from which he emerged as mayor of the municipality, located in the state of San Luis Potosà (center), until 2027, according to the Mexican newspaper ‘Milenio’.
“I regret the events in which four people lost their lives in the municipality of Tancanhuitz. I have already given instructions to the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection and the State Attorney General’s Office to cooperate with the investigations and locate those responsible,” said the governor of PotosÃ, Ricardo Gallardo Cardona, through his account on the social network X.
In this regard, the San Luis Potosà Attorney General’s Office has confirmed the opening of an investigation “for the death of four people in Palmiras, Tancanhuitz,” without commenting on their identities. “The report received indicates that the victims were located with various injuries inside a vehicle in the aforementioned area, this Sunday, December 15,” it said.
The agency stressed in a statement that “agents of the General Directorate of Investigation Methods (DGMI) moved to the place to carry out the corresponding investigations” and added that the authorities are carrying out actions “to clarify what happened and find the whereabouts of whoever is responsible for this event.”
