Trump to attend reopening of Notre Dame in Paris

US President-elect Donald Trump has confirmed that he will attend the reopening of the Notre Dame cathedral in the French capital, Paris, this weekend, devastated in the 2019 fire, in what will be the Republican’s first trip abroad since he was re-elected to the White House in the elections on November 5.

“It is an honor to announce that I will travel to Paris (France) on Saturday to attend the reopening of the magnificent and historic Notre Dame cathedral, which has been fully restored after the devastating fire five years ago,” he announced on his Truth Social platform.

The tycoon has praised the “wonderful work” of the French president, Emmanuel Macro, to ensure that the monument has been restored “to its maximum level of glory.” “It will be a very special day for everyone!” he celebrated.

After the Gothic cathedral caught fire in April 2019, Macron promised not only to rebuild it within a five-year period but to “make it even more beautiful” than it was before the tragedy. Now, the Elysée assures that this objective “has been achieved.”

Around 250 companies and hundreds of experts have been mobilized to carry out a restoration process that has cost some 700 million euros for what has already been called “the work of the century.”
