The vice president of the United States and Democratic candidate for the White House, Kamala Harris, has described Donald Trump on Tuesday as “unstable” and “obsessed with revenge”, and has accused him of trying to “keep the American people divided and afraid of each other”.
“He is an unstable person, obsessed with revenge, consumed by resentment and seeking unchecked power,” Harris said at the final rally of her campaign on the Ellipse in Washington DC, with the White House as a backdrop.
Specifically, regarding the aforementioned location, the presidential candidate recalled that it is the same place where Trump gathered his supporters on January 6, 2021: “Look, we know who Donald Trump is. He is the person who stood in this same place almost four years ago and sent an armed mob to the United States Capitol to override the will of the people in a free and fair election.”
The Democrat also stressed that the elections on November 5 will determine whether the United States will be “a country rooted in freedom for all Americans, or governed by chaos and division.”
“Within a week, you will have the opportunity to make a decision that will directly impact your life, the life of your family, and the future of this country we love,” Harris said in her speech.
“MY PRESIDENCY WILL BE DIFFERENT”
Harris, who has expressed that it has been “an honor to serve as Joe Biden’s vice president,” has detailed that her Presidency “will be different because the challenges are different.” “Now our biggest challenge is to reduce costs, which were rising even before the pandemic and which remain too high,” she added.
In front of a crowd that repeatedly interrupted Harris with applause and cheers, the vice president, through her personal story, expressed that she “loves” her country.
“I grew up as a child of the civil rights movement, my parents took me to marches in a stroller where crowds of people of all races, creeds and lifestyles gathered to fight for the ideals of freedom and opportunity. I have lived the promise of the United States,” she added.
The Democratic leader has called on politicians to stop using immigration “as an issue to scare voters.” “Instead, it must be treated as the serious challenge that it is. And I will work with Congress to pass immigration reform, including a path to citizenship for hard-working immigrants,” she said.
The presidential candidate, daughter of migrants from Jamaica and India, has called for unity. “America has, for too long, been consumed by too much division, chaos and mutual distrust,” she lamented, adding that “it’s time for a new generation of leadership.” “I’m ready,” she said.
On November 5, Kamala Harris will face former President Donald Trump, who hopes to return to the White House four years later.
