Military planes and helicopters of the Israeli Air Force have intercepted five unmanned aircraft over the Mediterranean Sea, an action that has caused a brief interruption of operations at Ben Gurion International Airport.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have explained in a statement that the drones, whose origin or authorship has not been revealed, have been shot down before they could enter Israeli airspace. It has also ruled out that they have posed a danger to national security.
For its part, the Israel Aviation Authority had reported shortly before the IDF note of a brief suspension of landings and takeoffs at the country’s main airport, without clarifying the reasons for this stoppage, according to local media.
