“If Hezbollah has not understood the message, I promise it will,” stresses the Israeli prime minister
The Israeli prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, has assured this Sunday that the Shiite party-militia Hezbollah has suffered “a series of blows that it could not have imagined” in recent days and has threatened new actions if the clashes on the border with Lebanon continue.
“If Hezbollah has not understood the message, I promise it will. We are determined to achieve the return of our residents to their homes in the north of the country,” he said in a message issued from his office and published through his account on the social network X.
Thus, he has stressed that “no country can tolerate that its citizens, its cities, are shot at.” “We, the State of Israel, will not tolerate it. We will do everything necessary to restore security,” Netanyahu said.
For his part, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant stressed during the day that the Army will continue its operations against the Lebanese group until those displaced by the fighting can return to their homes, according to the newspaper ‘Haaretz’.
The clashes with Hezbollah broke out a day after the attacks carried out on October 7, 2023 by the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) and other Palestinian factions against Israeli territory, which led the Israeli Army to unleash a bloody offensive against the Gaza Strip.
Nasrallah has indicated on several occasions that the group’s intervention takes place in support of the Palestinians and has stated that the fighting would end if Israel accepts a ceasefire agreement in Gaza, although international efforts to reach an agreement have not materialized.
Tensions have been rising in recent days, especially after a wave of coordinated explosions on communication devices allegedly by Hezbollah, which left around 40 dead and some 3,000 injured. Much of the international community, including the UN, has expressed concern about the indiscriminate nature of the attack.
At least 45 people were also killed on Friday in an Israeli bombing of the south of the Lebanese capital, Beirut, including Ibrahim Akil, a senior official in Hezbollah’s main military body who was identified by Israel as the target of the bombing.
Hezbollah responded on Saturday and Sunday by firing dozens of projectiles at Israel, including an attack on Haifa – for the first time since the outbreak of clashes in October 2023 – while Israel has stepped up its bombing of alleged Hezbollah targets in southern Lebanese territory.
