Hours earlier, the New York Prosecutor’s Office had accepted a request from Trump’s lawyers to delay the sentencing date in order to examine how it may affect Monday’s ruling by the Supreme Court, which granted the magnate partial immunity for the crimes committed. during his presidential period, in a ruling that already anticipated a slowdown in the multiple judicial fronts he has open.
One of them is related to payments made to Clifford in the campaign prior to the 2016 presidential election, which led to Trump being found guilty of 34 charges in May. The defense has requested a postponement as a result of the latest ruling by the Supreme Court and the Manhattan Prosecutor’s Office, although he believes that “his arguments are unfounded”, he confirmed this Tuesday that “he does not oppose the request.” In a letter addressed to Judge Merchan, he proposed July 24 as the new date.
