Trump to testify in his own defense at his tax fraud trial

Former President of the United States Donald Trump will testify in his own defense on December 11 in his trial for tax fraud in the Supreme Court of New York, where the Prosecutor’s Office is demanding 250 million dollars from him.

The tycoon’s lawyer, Chris Kise, has reported that his client will be the last to take the stand. A week before, his son Eric Trump is scheduled to give a statement. New York Attorney General Letitia James has accused the Trumps and their company of inflating their accounts by billions of dollars.

Trump’s defense has also filed an appeal in an appeals court to dismiss the gag order imposed on him by the judge in the case, Arthur Engoron, after considering that one of his publications put the safety of his legal assistant, Allison Greenfield, at risk. .

Trump used his social network, Truth Social, to post an image of Greenfield posing with Democratic Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer. “Schumer’s girlfriend, Allison R. Greenfield, is bringing this case against me. How embarrassing! This case should be dismissed immediately!!,” he wrote.

For Trump’s defense, the “alleged concerns” about Greenfield’s safety “lack in good faith” and while it recognizes that the publication may be “reprehensible,” it does not pose a “clear danger of imminent harm,” NBC reports.

The judge imposed the measure of silence after the Prosecutor’s Office presented the threats that Greenfield received after Trump’s publication, whose defense insisted that it had nothing to do with it and that his freedom of expression could not be restricted just because some might react their words.

After complaints, the judge decided this month to extend the gag order also to Trump’s lawyers, who like the tycoon will not be able to publicly refer to both Greenfield and the rest of Engoron’s staff.
