Trump finalizes his return to Twitter and Facebook two years after being banned

Ask Meta by letter for the end of the veto, which is already without effect on Twitter after the arrival of Elon Musk

The former president of the United States Donald Trump is already preparing his return to Twitter and Facebook, two social networks from which he was separated two years ago as a result of the assault launched by thousands of his followers on the Capitol and with a view to gaining presence in the face of his one new race towards the White House, with the horizon of the elections of November 2024.

The arrival of the tycoon Elon Musk to Twitter meant for Trump the recovery of the account. The last message from him was published on January 8, 2020, to confirm that he would not attend the inauguration of his successor, Joe Biden, but still retains 87.7 million followers.

The second front, still to be resolved, is that of Meta, the parent company of Facebook. The company founded by Mark Zuckerberg had promised to deal with the case in the coming weeks and the Trump campaign has formally requested Meta to unlock the account.

“We believe that the ban on Trump’s account has drastically distorted and inhibited public discourse,” reads a letter sent Tuesday and collected by NBC News. The letter does not pose a potential legal dispute, although sources close to Trump consulted by the aforementioned chain do put it on the table.

The campaign recalls that Meta’s current head of global affairs, former British politician Nick Clegg, said in October that he had to be “very careful” when it came to “silencing political voices.” “We agree,” say the advisers to the former tenant of the White House.

For the Trump campaign, which wants to be the Republican candidate for the Presidency again, “every day that his voice remains silent is an inappropriate interference in the American political and electoral process.”

Clegg has spoken from Davos (Switzerland), on the occasion of the World Economic Forum, and has insisted that his company plans to decide “quickly” the future of Trump’s accounts, according to the DPA agency. The former British Deputy Prime Minister recalled that the initial veto was only valid for two years.

SOCIAL TRUTH
Trump tried to get around the big social media ban by founding his own platform, Truth Social, which he has tried to promote as a speaker but has proven less of a reach. He currently has less than 5 million followers, far from the almost 88 million on Twitter and the 34 million he had on Facebook.

One of the issues that his campaign has already begun to debate is not only when Trump will return to Twitter but also how. According to NBC News, his advisers have already begun working on that possible first ‘tweet’ that would return the New York tycoon to the forum where the great political leaders from around the world are already present.
