Biden assures that “at some point” he will travel to the southern border with Mexico

The president of the United States, Joe Biden, has assured this Sunday that “at some point” he will go to the southern border with Mexico to know first-hand the conditions of entry of migrants seeking refugee status, a figure that each time is older.

According to Biden, who has answered questions at the White House, he knows “what happens in those facilities, which in turn has added that” much more “can be done to prevent migrants from crossing.

In this sense, he has specified that his strategy is “to reestablish what existed before, which was that they could stay in their place of origin and present their case (to obtain refugee status) from their country.”

On this same day on Sunday, the US Secretary of Homeland Security, Alejandro Mayorkas, has chosen not to offer any specific timetable on the Biden Administration’s plans to open new facilities that will improve the management of the increase in unaccompanied children in the southern border, insisting that it will be “as soon as possible” in an interview with CNN.

Mayorkas explained in another NBC interview that “the border is closed” and that the authorities are expelling families and adults alone, but not children who cross the border alone, since “we are not going to expel the Mexican desert. For example, three orphaned children that I have seen in the last two weeks. “

Criticism by Republicans has followed what they consider to be an increase in immigration since Biden took office and began to reverse the controversial restrictions imposed by his predecessor, Donald Trump, in this regard.

As of Saturday, there were more than 5,000 unaccompanied children in the custody of U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), according to documents obtained by CNN, up from 4,500 children days earlier.
