At least seven people have died as a result of the intense storms of nine that have affected the states of New York and Pennsylvania, in the northwestern United States in recent hours, as reported by the NBC network.
Snowstorms have caused hundreds of traffic accidents in various parts of these two US states. As of Thursday night, more than 25,000 people have been without power on the east coast of the United States due to the storms, according to data published by the website PowerOutage.us.
As of Thursday morning, about 10,000 people in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut remained without electricity, although the supply gradually recovered throughout the day in that area.
The governor of New York, Andrew Cuomo, has reported the deaths of at least two people from the snow storms, although he has not specified the causes of the deaths.
Clinton County, Pennsylvania, an accident on Interstate 80 involving several dozen vehicles has left two dead and in Snyder County a driver has died who collided with his car after losing control while driving through the snow.
In addition, in Pennsylvania a man was killed by a snowplow in North Versailles on the night of Tuesday through Wednesday. In the state of Virginia, a 19-year-old young man has died in one of the 200 traffic accidents recorded by snowfall. In this state, more than 15,000 homes have been left without electricity this Thursday.
In New Jersey, the governor, Phil Murphy, declared this Wednesday morning a state of emergency due to snowfall and has decreed the closure of state government offices.
