Iran has registered a considerable rise in the number of coronavirus cases, after accounting for more than 3,000 in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of infections to more than 44,000, as reported by the spokesman for the Ministry of Health, Kianush Jahanpour.
On the last day, 3,111 cases have been registered, bringing the total to 44,606, and 141 deaths, which places the balance of fatalities at 2,898. The spokesperson has highlighted that to date 14,656 patients have overcome Covid-19 disease, while another 3,703 are in critical condition, according to the Mehr news agency.
For his part, the country’s president, Hasan Rohani, thanked the Iranians for their cooperation with the authorities in the fight against the pandemic by abiding by the various restrictive measures adopted. “The Islamic Republic has managed to make achievements in the fight against the dangerous coronavirus thanks to the support and cooperation of the people,” he stressed, according to Press TV.
After stressing that this is the third major test that the Iranians have faced since the Islamic Revolution, after the war with Iran and the sanctions, it has announced new measures for the containment of the coronavirus, including those who test Covid positive. 19 are quarantined for two weeks.
Those who do not comply with this provision, he warned, could be prosecuted for having endangered the health of citizens, Rohani has warned, who has specified that those who cannot quarantine their homes will be able to go to convalescent facilities.
