Pele affirms that he is “well” and denies that he suffers depression

Former Brazilian footballer Edson Arantes do Nascimento ‘Pelé’ said on Thursday that he is “good”, trying to reassure fans about his health in a statement to the Brazilian media, after his son claimed that the forward could be suffering “certain depression” after a hip operation that prevented him from “moving normally.”

“I am fine. I will celebrate my 80th birthday this year. I have good days and others that are not so good. That is normal for people of my age,” said Pelé in a statement released Thursday by Brazilian media.

In this sense, the Brazilian rules out being depressed, as his son Edson Cholbi Nascimento ‘Edinho’ said last Monday in statements to the Brazilian medium ‘Globoesporte.com’, where he explained that his father had a “serious mobility problem”, which It could be causing “some depression.” “He is the king, he was always an imposing figure and today he can no longer walk correctly. He is very ashamed of that,” he said.

The Brazilian star, 79, underwent several hip operations, the last one in early 2016, but continues to suffer after failing to perform proper rehabilitation after the first surgery. In addition, he had spinal and knee problems and last year he suffered a serious urinary tract infection, for which he had a kidney stone.
