Spanish players Sergio Ramos, Gerard Piqué, Sergio Busquets, Jordi Alba, David de Gea and Daniel Carvajal are on the list of 55 finalists for the FIFPRO World 11 award, an award that recognizes the best alignment in the world and will be announced 23 September during the ‘The Best’ gala that FIFA will celebrate in Milan.
More than 23,000 professional soccer players voted for World 11 of 2019 selecting a goalkeeper, four defenders, three midfielders and three strikers who were the best in their position during the 2018-19 season.
Barcelona is the most represented club with a total of nine players, one more than Real Madrid and two more than Manchester City and Liverpool. However, the Premier itself is the most represented competition with 21 finalists, one more than the Spanish LaLiga. By countries, Brazil leads the ranking with ten players, three more than France, while Spain is third with six.
In addition, Cristiano Ronaldo remains the only player who has been a finalist in the 15 shortlisted lists of World 11, after Gianluigi Buffon does not appear this year after 14 consecutive presences. The other illustrious casualty is Andrés Iniesta, who was included nine times in the best eleven in the world.
Last year, FIFPRO World 11 was formed by David De Gea; Dani Alves, Raphael Varane, Sergio Ramos, Marcelo; Luka Modric, N’Golo Kante, Eden Hazard; Kylian Mbappe, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
