The governor of Puerto Rico, Ricardo Rosselló, has announced his resignation this Wednesday at the last minute after weeks of protests against him by the publication of a series of messages containing comments in which he was asked to persecute opposition politicians and officials.
After repeatedly declaring that he would remain in office until January 2021, Rosselló has informed that he will finally submit his resignation, as reported by the ABC news network. The resignation will be effective on August 2 at 5:00 p.m. (local time).
The governor’s decision has taken place despite the fact that on Wednesday his office denied “incorrect rumors” that said Rosselló had planned to announce his resignation in a few hours. Europa Press
