The Permanent Attention Court of Santo Domingo province today imposed a year in prison as a precautionary measure against nine involved in the shooting attack suffered by former Major League player David Ortiz, which occurred last Sunday in a fun center of that demarcation .
Judge Leomar Cruz Quezada also declared the case complex, as requested by the Public Ministry, after a hearing of just over three hours.
The Public Prosecutor’s Office said in a statement that next week it expects to offer the details of the attack, the intellectual authors, and the full narrative of how the case happened.
Among those who were sent to preventive detention is Rolfi Ferreyra Cruz, who according to authorities admitted to shooting in the back and point-blank at Ortiz, who had to undergo surgery in the Dominican capital and then transferred to Boston (USA) where he was also operated.
Other defendants are José Eduardo Ciprián (Chuki) and Carlos Rafael Álvarez (Carlos Nike), who are serving time in a jail in the south of the country for various crimes, and which are indicated as those who organized the attack.
In the group of involved are also Eddy Blamidir Félix García, Porfirio Allende Deschamps Vásquez, Joel Rodríguez (Squidward), Reynaldo Rodríguez Valenzuela (El Chino), Oliver Moisés Mirabal Acosta and his wife Lanny Estefani Pérez Reyes.
The authorities also persecute Luis Alfredo Rivas Clase, nicknamed El Cirujano; a woman only known as La Venezolana or Pelirrubia, and Marcos Díaz.
On Friday, another of those persecuted for the act, Alexis (El Hueso), was handed over to the National Police, but who was not among those implicated who were ordered to take measures of coercion.
The bullet that wounded Ortiz came out through the abdomen and caused injuries to one leg to the communicator Jhoel López, who was sharing with the ex-player in the place, located in the municipality of Santo Domingo Este, adjacent to the Dominican capital.
