At least six people were killed and 16 others were injured on Wednesday when a trailer without brakes hit other vehicles on the Mexico City-Cuautla highway in the central Mexican state of Morelos, local sources report.
According to the initial report of the Ministry of Public Security of Morelos, the cargo trailer, which carried construction rods, ran out of brakes at the height of the community of Santa Barbara and crashed at 08.30 local time (13.30 GMT ).
Unable to stop, the driver was stamped on other vehicles, including at least one public transport unit.
The crash also caused the trailer to overturn and catch fire.
The report states that the driver of the cargo vehicle is stopped.
Local media reports indicate that the trailer overwhelmed people who were on the side of the road.
So far, six deaths and 16 injured people have been reported, which have been transferred to hospitals in the area by paramedics from the Red Cross.
Due to the seriousness of the incident, the traffic on the highway has been interrupted, and the place of the accident was cordoned off by police and military agents.
On the site of the accident, rescue personnel from several municipalities of Morelos are working to recover some bodies that were pressed, while agents of the State Attorney’s Office carry out the removal of the bodies.
Also, firefighters work to put out the fire.
In the last 30 years there have been numerous fateful road accidents in Mexico.
