Washington, – President Donald Trump will visit Ireland on June 5 during his official trip to the United Kingdom and France to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Normandy landings in World War II, the White House said.
During his visit to Ireland, Trump will meet with Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar.
The Irish press had speculated on a disagreement between Washington and Dublin over the meeting place between Trump and Varadkar.
While the American would like to meet at his luxurious Trump International Golf Links and Hotel Ireland complex, Dublin would have proposed the Dromoland Castle considering that Trump’s property presents “protocol problems”.
In its statement on Tuesday, the White House has not reported the place of the meeting.
As initially planned, Trump will travel between June 3 and 5 to the United Kingdom and 6 to France.
In the United Kingdom, Trump will meet with Queen Elizabeth II and hold a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Theresa May.
It will be the first state visit of the president to the United Kingdom since he arrived at the White House in 2017, after repeated delays.
During his stay in the United Kingdom, Trump, accompanied by the first lady, Melania, will visit Portsmouth to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Normandy landings on “D-Day” on June 6, 1944.
Precisely on June 6, Trump will travel to France to visit the Normandy cemetery in Colleville-sur-Mer, also on the occasion of “D-Day”.
In France, the president will participate in a bilateral meeting with the French president, Emmanuel Macron.
Trump has maintained a tense relationship with the leaders of both countries, which he has criticized repeatedly.
