San Juan, .- The hotel occupancy in Puerto Rico during Holy Week in certified establishments exceeded 95%, according to this Sunday informed in a statement the executive director of the Tourism Company of Puerto Rico (CTPR), Carla Campos.
“Local and foreign tourists responded to the call to enjoy the myriad of opportunities that the island has, achieving almost a full house,” said Campos.
Among other areas and municipalities, the regions of Porta del Este and Porta del Sol (west) were the most popular at the end of Holy Week.
The Westin Rio Mar, Mauna Caribe, Parador Palmas de LucÃa and LucÃa Beach Villas in the Eastern region reported 100% occupancy.
The occupation in the western area, especially in the municipalities of Lajas, Cabo Rojo, Mayagüez and surrounding towns, was crowded with local and foreign tourists.
The 40 lodgings certified by the Tourism Company in Porta del Sol comprise 1,908 rooms and they reported a 98% occupancy from Thursday to Sunday.
The establishments of the municipalities of ManatÃ, Dorado and Hatillo – belonging to Porta Atlántico – reported between 95% and 100% occupancy in the hotels of Punta Macayo, Parador Buen Café, Hyatt Place, Embassy Suites by Hilton and Dorado Beach Reserve .
In the mountain (Porta Cordillera), in the municipality of Adjuntas, the Parador Villas de Sotomayor reported 100% occupancy, the Gripiñas de Jayuya Hacienda 95% and the Media Luna Hotel Comerio 98%.
The panorama was the same to the south, in Porta Caribe, where, for example, establishments in the “Bed & Breakfast” category reported 100% occupancy.
Likewise, Holy Week had a positive balance for short-term rental platforms, with Airbnb reporting 23,000 people staying in properties rented through its platform, representing a substantial increase compared to the 14,000 people last year.
The director of the Ports Authority, Anthony Maceira, informed that the activity at the Muelle de San Juan was not the exception for this Holy Week.
“We had 8 transit stops and 6 departures -of cruise ships- from the base port between April 14 and April 21. According to the numbers of the CTPR, it is estimated that the economic impact, as a result of spending by passengers during their visit to the island It was approximately 6 million dollars.
The executive director of the CTPR indicated that tourism activity projections continue to be very encouraging for all sectors that benefit from the visitor’s economy and it is envisaged to continue experiencing a considerable increase in the number of visitors arriving on the island during the rest of 2019.
