Best known for his role in the series ‘The Wire’
American actor Isiah Whitlock Jr., best known for his role in the series ‘The Wire’, has died at the age of 71, his agent Brian Liebman announced on social media tonight.
Liebman shared the news of Whitlock’s passing in an Instagram post accompanied by a photo of the actor.
“With tremendous sadness, I share that my dear friend and client Isiah Whitlock Jr. has passed away. If you knew him, you loved him,” wrote the agent, adding that he was “a brilliant actor and an even better person.”
The post concluded with the wish that “his memory be a blessing.” “Our hearts are broken. He will be deeply, deeply missed,” Liebman added.
American film director and screenwriter Spike Lee, with whom Whitlock collaborated on several occasions, also shared the news, posting a photo with the actor on Instagram. “Today I learned of the passing of my dear friend Isiah Whitlock. May God bless him,” read the caption.
Isiah Whitlock Jr. was born in Indiana in 1954 and was best known for his role as Clay Davis in the HBO television series ‘The Wire’. Active since the early 1980s, Whitlock appeared in more than 50 films and television series, including ‘Goodfellas’, ‘1408’, ‘The Angriest Man in Brooklyn’, and the Spike Lee-directed films ‘BlacKkKlansman’ and ‘Da 5 Bloods’.
