Nearly 50 Countries Denounce Russian Drone Incursions in Poland to the UN

Nearly 50 United Nations member states expressed their concern to the organization this Friday regarding the recent Russian drone incursions into Polish airspace, according to a statement released this afternoon by Polish Secretary of State Marcin Bosacki.

Bosacki presented the joint statement of the denouncing states in an appearance prior to a UN Security Council meeting dedicated to the issue at the request of the Polish government, which convened the session and highlighted the participation of the United States.

“For the first time during (US President) Donald Trump’s term, the US administration has also endorsed this statement. This is a great success for Polish diplomacy,” he celebrated, while assuring that there are no commercial incentives behind this decision.

“It seems to me that the further we move away from the Alaska summit and the more Putin escalates his stance against Ukraine, and now also against Poland, the more realistic the US position becomes regarding when and by what means a ceasefire and then peace can be obtained from Putin. Putin will only bow to force,” Bosacki argued in statements reported by the country’s press.

Along these lines, the UN Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs, Rosemary DiCarlo, pointed out that this milestone is merely a reflection of the “dangerous impact this conflict has on regional security and the risk of further escalation,” reiterating her call for a ceasefire.

These statements come shortly after Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk emphasized the theory that last Wednesday’s Russian drone strike was intentional, in a direct response to President Trump, who suggested that “it could have been a mistake.”

Poland shot down several Russian drones in its airspace on Wednesday with support from aircraft from other NATO allies, in the first such incident since the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, launched in February 2022 on the orders of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Both Warsaw and its main allies have assumed that Moscow acted intentionally, but Trump distanced himself from the situation in statements to the media on Thursday. “In any case, I’m not happy about anything related to this whole situation. Let’s hope it ends,” the White House resident said.
