Florida’s top public health official, Joseph Ladapo, announced Wednesday that they will work to end mandatory vaccinations in schools, comparing mandatory vaccinations to slavery.
“All mandates are misguided and brim with disdain and slavery. Who am I, as a government, or anyone else, to tell anyone what to put in your body?” Ladapo said from Valrico to cheers as he announced the measure.
In this regard, he stated that he does not have the right to make this decision. “Your body is a gift from God,” he argued, adding that the growing skepticism toward vaccines is “a reflection of God’s light against the darkness of tyranny and oppression.”
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has announced the creation of a state commission called “Make America Healthy Again” to promote freedom of choice in health care matters. The controversial measure would make Florida the first state in the United States to end vaccination requirements.
Vaccines that protect against diseases such as measles, chickenpox, hepatitis B, diphtheria, tetanus, and whooping cough, among others, have been mandatory in Florida for decades in daycare centers and schools, although parents are allowed to object to the requirement for religious reasons.
