At least four people were killed in a shooting that occurred this Friday at a bar in the US city of Anaconda, Montana, while authorities are searching for the suspect in the attack, according to local authorities.
The Montana Bureau of Criminal Investigation (DCI) has reported the death toll from the attack, which took place at The Owl bar at around 10:30 a.m. (local time, 6:30 p.m. CET).
“The scene is secure. This is an active investigation, and we will provide more information when it becomes available,” reads a statement, adding that “authorities are searching for the suspect, who is believed to be armed.”
For this reason, the DCI has asked residents to “avoid the area.” “Any further questions regarding the search for a suspect should be directed to the Anaconda-Deer Lodge Police Department,” he added, which has already released the suspect’s identity.
“The shooting suspect is believed to be armed and dangerous. He is Michael Paul Brown and was last seen in the Stumptown area. The public is advised to stay away from the area and surrounding areas. If you see him, do not approach him,” he said.
Montana Governor Greg Gianforte indicated that he is “closely monitoring” the situation and offered his condolences to the loved ones of those killed, while offering his support to “the brave law enforcement officers working during this tragedy.”
