Trump Administration Sues New York Mayor Over Immigration Policies

The Donald Trump administration announced Thursday that it has sued New York City Mayor Eric Adams over his immigration policies, which it believes are protecting migrants and discriminating against law enforcement.

Attorney General Pam Bondi reported that the Department of Justice is suing New York City and its mayor “for continuing to obstruct law enforcement with ‘sanctuary city’ policies.” “If New York’s leaders won’t step up to protect their citizens, we will,” she said in her X profile.

The department later specified that the case was filed in the Eastern District of New York with the goal of “combating the unlawful obstruction of enforcement of federal immigration laws.” In recent months, she has filed lawsuits against Los Angeles, the states of New York, Colorado, and Illinois, among others.

“For too long, New York City has been at the forefront of interfering with the enforcement of our immigration laws. Its efforts to thwart federal immigration enforcement now end,” added Assistant Attorney General Brett Shumate.
