White House confirms dismissal of prosecutor who prosecuted Epstein

Comey denounces “unjustifiable” firing but cites Trump’s “fear”

US authorities confirmed this Thursday the dismissal of Maurene Comey, the prosecutor who prosecuted convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein in 2019. Comey denounced being fired “unjustifiably” and, in a veiled accusation against President Donald Trump, stated that “fear is a tyrant’s tool to repress.”

“This was a decision made by the Department of Justice,” White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt said at a press conference, in which she criticized “the Democrats and the mainstream media for covering this as if it were the most important news for the American people.”

In this regard, she argued that “the president has been working very hard this week” and supported his statements about an “Epstein hoax,” clarifying that the president “is referring to the fact that the Democrats have exploited this (while) they controlled this building, the White House, for four years and did absolutely nothing in terms of transparency regarding Jeffrey Epstein and his heinous crimes.”

The reasons for the dismissal of the prosecutor in the Epstein case have not been disclosed, although Comey has denounced that “she was summarily dismissed through a memorandum from the Court of Justice that did not explain the reason for her dismissal.”

In an email sent to her colleagues and broadcast by the American television network CNN, the judge warned that “if a career prosecutor can be fired without cause, fear could infiltrate the decisions of those who remain.”

“Let’s not allow that to happen. Fear is the tool of a tyrant, used to stifle independent thought. Instead of fear, let’s allow this moment to fan the fire already burning in the heart of this place. A fire of righteous indignation at abuses of power. Of commitment to justice for victims. Of dedication to the truth above all else,” he added after highlighting his nearly ten years of service to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York.

It should be noted that Comey’s position reports to US Attorney General Pam Bondi, who in recent weeks has received numerous criticisms from the MAGA (Make America Great Again) movement for a lack of transparency, after the FBI and the Department of Justice concluded that there is no “client list”—known as the “Epstein list”—that compiles the names of all the people involved in the parties hosted by the New York billionaire and in the child trafficking network.

President Donald Trump himself has requested that this investigation be closed, in what he has repeatedly described as an attempt to destabilize the government. In fact, he has accused former FBI Director James Comey, father of the now-fired prosecutor, and political rivals of “fabricating” the content.

Former Trump advisor Elon Musk accused the president of appearing in the documents regarding the child trafficking case shortly after leaving the Department of Energy Efficiency (DOGE) in early June, although he later retracted his statement and deleted the incriminating message.
