Trump Announces “Immediate” Opening of Ceasefire Negotiations Between Russia and Ukraine

US President Donald Trump announced this Monday an agreement between Russia and Ukraine for the “immediate” opening of ceasefire negotiations to “end the war.”

“I just finished my two-hour conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin. I think it went very well. Russia and Ukraine will immediately begin negotiations for a ceasefire and, more importantly, to end the war,” Trump announced on his Truth Social account.

Trump explained that kyiv and Moscow will negotiate the terms “as it should be” because “they know details that no one else would perceive.”

The White House resident emphasized that “the tone and spirit” of the conversation with Putin “was excellent.” “If it weren’t that way, I would say it sooner rather than later. Russia wants to trade extensively with the United States when this catastrophic bloodbath is over, and I agree,” he added. “Russia can create a lot of jobs and wealth. Its potential is unlimited,” he stressed.

As for Ukraine, “it can also benefit from trade during the reconstruction of the country.” Trump explained that he had already informed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky; European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen; French President Emmanuel Macron; Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni; German Chancellor Friedrich Merz; and Finnish President Alexander Stubb in a call immediately following the call with Putin.

“The Vatican, represented by the Pope, has declared its interest in hosting the negotiations. Let the process begin!” Trump concluded.
