Trump Says US “Must Take Gaza” and Turn Palestinian Enclave into a “Freedom Zone”

US President Donald Trump stated this Thursday that the United States “must take Gaza” and turn it into a “freedom zone,” while once again asserting a central role for Washington in the future of the Palestinian enclave.

“I have ideas for Gaza, and I think they’re very good. Making it a freedom zone, letting the United States get involved,” he said during his trip to Qatar, part of his visit to several countries in the region.

In this regard, he stated that “if necessary, I would be proud to have the United States take over the area.” “Let some good things happen, build houses so people can be safe. Hamas is going to have to accept this,” he asserted.

However, the New York tycoon’s proposals to end the conflict have yielded no results, although this is not the first time he has raised the possibility of the enclave being “taken over” by the United States.

“We are working very hard on this issue. Gaza has been a territory of death and destruction for years, and you know I have ideas,” he stated, according to the American television network CNN.

The US president later traveled to the US military base in Al Udeid, on the outskirts of Doha, where he met with troops deployed in the country. He is then scheduled to travel to the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

There, he thanked the nearly 10,000 US troops deployed at what is its largest base in the entire Middle East and emphasized that his intention is “to end conflicts, not start them.” However, he stressed that he will not hesitate to “use American power if necessary to defend the interests of the United States and its allies if necessary.”
