US President Donald Trump announced this Monday that any country that buys oil or gas from Venezuela will be required to pay a 25% tariff to the United States on any trade it conducts with Washington starting April 2.
This tariff, the president explained this Monday on his Truth Social account, is due to the fact that Venezuela has “deliberately and deceitfully” sent tens of thousands of high-level criminals and other individuals to the United States, many of whom are murderers “and people of a very violent nature.”
Among the groups sent to the United States, Trump denounced the Tren de Aragua gang, designated as a Foreign Terrorist Organization.
“We are in the process of returning them to Venezuela. It’s a huge undertaking! In addition, Venezuela has been very hostile toward the United States and the freedoms we defend,” he said.
