Miami, FL — The Biden-Harris Administration, through the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), has awarded Eco Ed Impact Corp a $500,000 Brownfields Job Training (BJT) Grant. This funding, part of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, will train and empower underserved communities in South Florida, marking the program’s return to the region after 25 years.
The grant will enable Eco Ed Impact Corp to train 80 participants and place 45 individuals in environmental jobs across Hallandale Beach, West Park, Miami Gardens, and Dania Beach. The 10-day program will be entirely free of charge, with a transportation stipend provided to participants in need, ensuring accessibility for all. Participants will complete 148 hours of instructional training, earning up to two state and four federal certifications and practical skills to prepare them for in-demand roles in the growing environmental sector.
Certificates and Technical Curriculum
Participants will receive the following certifications and specialized training, equipping them for meaningful careers in the environmental field:
● 40-Hour HAZWOPER Certification: Training in hazardous waste operations and emergency response.
● CPR/First Aid/AED Certification: Life-saving techniques for workplace and community emergencies.
● IS-5.A: Introduction to Hazardous Materials: Knowledge of hazardous materials and their safe management.
● Community Emergency Response Training (CERT): Preparing participants for disaster preparedness and response.
● Confined Space Entry and Non-Entry Rescue: Techniques for safe operations in confined spaces.
● OSHA Disaster Site Worker Certification: Safety and health skills for disaster site workers.
● Mold Remediation and Renovation Certification: Addressing mold contamination in buildings.
● Lead Renovation, Repair, and Painting Certification: Safe lead handling in renovations.
● Soil and Water Sampling: Skills for environmental testing and analysis.
● Environmental Justice and Sustainable Practices: Education on community resilience, environmental stewardship, and sustainable living.
