Ecuadorian authorities have reported that a plane from the United States will arrive on Tuesday night in the city of Guayaquil, in the southeast of the country, with 80 Ecuadorian citizens on board who were in the United States in an irregular situation.
“This Tuesday, January 28, at night, the additional deportation flight to the regularly scheduled ones, which are carried out twice a week, for more than a decade, after the inauguration of the new United States Administration, will arrive in the city of Guayaquil,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced in a statement published on its account on the social network X.
The agency has assured that it will “immediately activate the protocols” to offer “primary assistance” to the 80 passengers, who “were forcibly returned, because they were in an irregular migratory situation” in the United States, “guaranteeing respect for their rights.”
The Ministries of Economic and Social Inclusion, the Interior, Public Health and the Red Cross will provide them with “specialized care according to the individual needs that arise” upon their arrival in the Latin American country, and the World Food Program (WFP) will provide “emergency humanitarian assistance.”
The number of Ecuadorian citizens deported from the United States was 13,589 people in 2024 and 18,449 the previous year, the ministry has reported.
The US authorities have been carrying out deportation flights to Ecuador since 2005, which have increased to two or three flights per week to the city of Guayaquil. In this case, US government sources consulted by the CNN television network have indicated that the flight has left El Paso (Texas).
“The National Government is always ready to welcome its citizens and reiterates its commitment to its compatriots abroad and in Ecuador, as well as to the protection of all their rights under any circumstances,” said the Government of Daniel Noboa.
