The president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, announced this Sunday that he rejects any entry of planes with deported immigrants from the United States as part of the campaign against illegal immigration launched by the American president, Donald Trump.
“The United States cannot treat Colombian migrants as criminals. I reject the entry of American planes with Colombian migrants into our territory,” Petro said in a message published on his account on the social network X.
Petro has thus called on the United States to “establish a protocol for the dignified treatment of migrants before we receive them.”
Before this message, Petro had published another announcing the arrival of two of these flights in which he invited people to receive the repatriated “with flags and flowers.” However, the message was deleted minutes later and replaced by the final one.
“At 6:45 am the first plane with Colombian deportees from the United States will arrive. Another plane will arrive at 10 am, let’s welcome them with flags and flowers,” read the original message, a screenshot of which has been published on social media.
